World Lung Foundation Launches Tobacco Control Mass Media Resource
"Fatty Deposits," one of the 25 hard-hitting advertisments from the Tobacco Control Media Resource.
WLF has updated a powerful tool for tobacco control advocates in the battle against the world’s most preventable killer: tobacco use. Building on the work of its partner, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, WLF has re-launched the Tobacco Control Mass Media Resource, a collection of 25 powerful and adaptable television advertisements, with new ads, rating scales, and a new design.
Mass media advertising is a proven intervention in tobacco control and can augment other interventions, such as tobacco taxation or graphic pack warnings. The Mass Media Resource, available in seven languages online or in hard-copy, contains hard-hitting ads that can be easily adapted for use in other countries. By adapting ads that have already been proven effective, tobacco control campaigns can save valuable time and money and be more confident in their results. The Resource also contains information about how easily ads can be adapted and the ease of obtaining licenses to use the ads.
The Resource, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is the result of input from WLF’s partners and a Mass Media Taskforce convened in 2007 and 2008 to identify the most effective tobacco control ads from around the world. For more information, or to receive a hard-copy version of the Mass Media Resource, please contact massmedia@worldlungfoundation.org.
